Who was Fred Perry?

A three-time Wimbledon champion and multiple Grand Slam winner during the 1930s, British-born Fred Perry is considered one of the top male tennis players of all time. Because he was an amateur player when he became world champ and only turned professional after his wins, the UK tennis establishment turned their backs on him and refused to acknowledge his legitimacy. Despite this, he continued to fight for recognition and enjoyed a healthy career. (Fun fact: he trained with Arsenal FC in the early days to stay fit!)

In 1952, he founded his apparel brand, using the symbol of Wimbledon, the laurel leaf, as his signature. It was an immediate success, embraced by sporty types and subcultures alike, most notably British Mod culture. Fred Perry's laurel leaf gear has stayed relevant through the decades, looking sharp and turning heads.
